Mathilde M. van Ditmars is assistant professor of Political Science at the Department of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Milan. Her research studies questions of political sociology, political behaviour, and gender and politics. She addresses how family origins, political socialization, and other life experiences impact citizens’ political preferences and behaviour, often focussing on differences and inequalities by gender and social class. She holds a PhD in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute. Prior to joining the University of Milan, she has held academic and visiting positions at the University of Zurich, University of Lucerne, Leiden University, GESIS Eurolab, DIW Berlin, and FORS at the University of Lausanne. Her work has appeared in Comparative Political Studies, the British Journal of Political Science, and the European Journal of Political Research, among others.
