Beatrice Carella is Research Fellow at the University of Milan and member of the ERC project “SOLID – Policy crisis and crisis politics. Sovereignty, solidarity and identity in the EU post 2008”. She is a PhD candidate in Political Science and Sociology at Scuola Normale Superiore in Florence, Italy. Her doctoral work focused on the relationship between populism and welfare in Europe and her dissertation is a comparative analysis of the social policy positions and welfare reforms promoted by populist parties from the Left. Prior to her PhD, she earned a double master’s degree from Bocconi University and Sciences Po Paris, and she worked for a year at the European Policy Centre in Brussels investigating social policy advancements at the EU level. She has published on topics including the recent developments of the European social dimension, and labour reforms by inclusionary populist parties. Her current research within SOLID is focused on EU policy response to social crises and the role of corporate and partisan channels in EU social policy-making.
